Community Radio stations and local partners unite for the launch of crystal clear, Small-Scale DAB in Bournemouth.

Community Radio Stations in Bournemouth and Poole; Hope FM and Hot Radio, have teamed up with Hospital Radio Bedside (HRB) and broadcast engineering company, Wide FM, to apply to run the Small-scale DAB service (SSDAB) coming to Bournemouth and Boscombe in the near future.

Along with support from community focused local organisations such as Bournemouth University, Community Action Network, Bollywood Music Lovers Bournemouth, Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and The Talbot Village Trust, the newly formed company, BH Community DAB, will look to secure the future of local radio for BCP.

Hospital Radio Bedside Chairman, Gary Plummer commented, “HRB is excited to be part of this new venture. Part of our strategy is to develop ourselves as a community-based health and wellbeing-based radio station, and offers HRB an amazing opportunity for us to connect with our wider community.”

Kevin Scott, CEO of the Hot Radio Family, and Director of BH Community DAB says, “I believe it is imperative that this new community asset stays in the hands of the community, enabling us to offer an accessible and affordable DAB platform for community radio stations, as well as current radio broadcast providers from all sectors”.

Operations Manager at Hope FM, and fellow BH Community DAB Director, Dan Withey says, “It’s exciting that community interest radio stations throughout BCP and Dorset will finally get an affordable route into local DAB broadcasting – this has simply not been an option for many of us until now”.

With additional support from Bournemouth West MP Jessica Toale, Bournemouth East MP Tom Hayes, MP for Poole Neil Duncan-Jordan, and David Sidwick (Dorset PCC), many other radio stations from across the south have backed BH Community DAB’s application, including Nerve Radio (Students’ Union at Bournemouth University), Forest FM (East Dorset), AIR 107.2 (Weymouth & Portland), Unity 101 (Southampton), Voice FM (Southampton), Outreach Radio (Hampshire), Mi-Soul, and Gaydio.
